Working Together to Recommend the Future of Assisted Driving & Autonomous Vehicles

Committees and
Working Groups

AVCC’s committees offer opportunities for members to collaborate on the future of assisted driving and AV. Together we will develop and promote the conceptual compute platform architecture, its hardware requirements and software APIs, and synchronize its deliverables with the start of vehicle mass production cycles.

Technical Committee

The AVCC Technical Committee and its Working Groups are the primary member-level forums for the discussion and preliminary adoption of all technical study-areas. The Technical Committee makes technical recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning its defined mission.

Marketing Committee

The AVCC Marketing Committee is the primary member-level forum for the discussion of activities intended to promote the mission of the Consortium in the industry. The Marketing Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning promotional matters relating to Consortium adopted technical work.

Working Groups

These working groups’ studies are core to the AVCC, and the outcome of the projects will drive the goal of defining a compute architecture that will enable safe deployment of autonomous vehicles.
SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURE WORKING GROUP

Provides a framework for the AVCC recommendations by documenting a conceptual system architecture for automated driving use cases at all SAE levels. Systems Architecture Working Group delivers recommendations that extend beyond a functional block diagram to a comprehensive deep dive of key areas and their interoperability, including:

  • Compute functions
  • Internal and external connectivity
  • Module interoperability
  • Security
  • Safety
  • Availability
  • Data marshaling
  • Power consumption metrics
 BENCHMARKS WORKING GROUP

Proposes methods and tools for measuring and predicting the performance of the computing systems ultimately recommended by the AVCC, including:

  • Identifying key metrics, including performance measurement and prediction
  • Surveying existing benchmarks for metrics, and identify shortcomings
  • Developing a proposal for the AVCC to address shortcomings
  • Documenting an estimate of the necessary resources and time to address the shortcomings
 IMAGING WORKING GROUP

Develops implementation-agnostic recommendations for image functions and formats used in autonomous vehicle compute platforms. Defines conceptual imaging system architecture that addresses performance and functional portability, specifically:

  • Operation
  • Image format
  • Accuracy
  • Throughput
  • Real-time computing
 CYBERSECURITY WORKING GROUP

Surveys members to identify cybersecurity best practices and recommendations for automated driving systems at each SAE level of autonomy (Level 1-5). Identifies additional gaps in specifications and develops consensus about industry requirements.

 SOFTWARE PORTABILITY WORKING GROUP

Addresses the new paradigm of centralized compute and the trend towards higher levels of automation presents new challenges for software development in the automotive field. The Software Portability Working Group surveys the members to identify areas where the consortium can contribute in solving some of these challenges. Aspects being considered ranges from solutions to the portability challenge, to new challenges in the area of functional safety, communication between software components, tool support through the software lifecycle and more.
